Bould Consulting Limited Chairman, Martyn Bould was invited to the Clinton Global Initiative held in Puerto Rico to share experiences with attendees on the progress of recovery efforts in the British Virgin Islands from the damage resulting from the passage of hurricane Irma in September 2017. This followed the CGI Commitment to Action invitation from the Clinton Global Initiative held in Miami in August 2018.
The opening Plenary by President Clinton highlighted that some 16 months after the devastating 2017 hurricane season, Caribbean communities are still working on recovery efforts whilst planning longer-term resiliency strategies. With this transition comes several challenges: sustaining support from the international community long after the news cycle has moved on; mitigating on-the-ground disaster fatigue from responders, community leaders, and local citizens; and rebuilding economies and communities to better withstand the impacts of climate change and natural disasters in the future. These are the challenges being addressed by the CGI Action Network community bringing together diverse stakeholders to help Caribbean communities continue to build back better and maintain momentum in 2019 and beyond.
