The Eighth Annual Caribbean Hotel Investment Conference
The Eighth Annual Caribbean Hotel Investment Conference

Bould Consulting Limited was represented by Chairman Martyn Bould who moderated panel of experts debating the “The Caribbean Market-Planning for the Future” - examining the resilience the Caribbean Region demonstrates following recent challenges such as a devastating 2017 hurricane season and earlier negative natural impacts such as the Zika virus and the reaction both in the Private and Government sectors to such challenges and what lessons have been learnt for the future.

Further given the competition from increasing supply, both regionally and globally, and the search for unique experiences and service provision, what steps can be taken to ensure the ongoing success story.

An excellent addition to this year’s CHICOS was an early morning discussion with the volunteers many of whom are pursuing a career in the hospitality industry and Greg Bohan of Florida Atlantic University moderated the session in which, a diverse group of industry experts provided backgrounds to the careers and choices made over the years. Bould Consulting Limited Martyn Bould was delighted to be asked to participate in this session.

The conference drew an attendance of some 250 industry experts including developers, lenders, architects, government representatives, hotel brand executives, investors who networked on the current state of the tourist industry in the Caribbean.

Key takeaway points were noted as:

  • There is a noticeable uptick of interest in development of the all-inclusive model in the region, particularly in the Dominican Republic.

  • More capital is available for investor lending in the Caribbean region at this point in the development cycle.

  • Total revenue increased eight of the nine months reviewed during 2018, compared to the same period in 2017; occupancy increased slightly; ADR grew more than 5% for the last five months (May through September 2018); and RevPAR increased 3.8% over the same period last year.

  • Aruba, Curacao, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico are among the strongest performing islands in terms of year-to-date RevPAR growth, with the Cayman Islands leading the charge, up over 27% from the same period last year.

  • CHICOS is scheduled for next year in Montego Bay Jamaica 14th & 15th November 2019
