The existing Special Needs Lighthouse School will be expanded to cater for up to 200 students from Reception to Year 13, in addition to the Early Intervention Programme (EIP), and up to 100 staff. This will ensure that the school meets the estimated SEND needs in Grand Cayman for the next 25 years.

The expansion will include:

13 new classrooms, including wheeled mobility classrooms for PMLD students

A new multi-purpose vocational skills / science classroom

A range of sensory and therapy spaces

A large multi-purpose hall / gym / assembly space

Adequate storage provision

Use of acoustic dampening materials

A layout and massing which utilises the sun path, reducing solar gain and maximising natural daylight

Good U-values, airtightness and good solar reduction properties of glazing to reduce cooling demands

Building that meets all health and safety requirements including secure access arrangements on all doors including using mag locks supported by ongoing (and possibly additional) security staff.
